CALAPAN TELEPHONE SYSTEM, INCORPORATED or commonly known as CATSI is a 100% Filipino owned Telecommunication Company incorporated on April 22, 1958 with the primary purpose of establishing, maintaining and operating a telephone system in the then Municipality now City of Calapan. With an initial capital stock of twenty five thousand pesos (PhP 25,000.00) only and with ten (10) stockholders, it started its operation within the boundaries of Calapan City, and with this, pioneered the telecommunication industry in the whole of Oriental Mindoro Province.

        In 1996, CATSI president WILFREDO N. CABALLERO gained control of the corporation with more than 70% shareholdings and increased the capitalization to Ten Million Pesos (Php 10,000,000.00) to keep up with the latest technology and to be at par with the world-class global telecommunication Network. He started rehabilitating the company and planned for infrastructures to expand its whole operation province wide. Since then and up to the present, he is keeping up with his untiring efforts of improving the telecommunication technology for the Mindoreņos.

        Slowly but surely, the company began the difficult task of laying out the foundation to bring each telephone lines right to the doorstep of each subscriber. And after more than three decades of continuous operation and faithfully serving Calapeņof its telecommunication needs, a congressional franchise was granted to CATSI on September 5, 1997 known as Republic Act No. 8351. It is by virtue of this law that CATSI was granted a franchise to establish, maintain, and operate a telephone system within the whole province of Oriental Mindoro. Accordingly, the primary purpose as stated in the Articles of Incorporations was amended to commemorate this momentous event in CATSI.s history, and it now reads as follows: "to establish, install, operate, and maintain telephone system, CATV and/or an INTERNET, in any and/or all municipalities in the province of Oriental Mindoro."

        Today, CATSI, living up to its commitment in providing Oriental Mindoro a dependable telecommunication system, has expanded its area of operation in the provinces of Oriental Mindoro connecting subscribers in any part of the world. It has also entered into a partnership with Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) in its domestic and international long distance call services. These developments and expansion programs gave CATSI.s valued subscribers the assurance of a more reliable and highly effective telecommunication system throughout the Province of Oriental Mindoro.

        Information Technology is now fast becoming part of our daily lives. It is by far one of the major breakthroughs in telecommunication of the past millennium that will definitely shape and control the future of this millennium. No wonder, the demand for this technology to be readily available is now a major concern among telecommunication companies, and CATSI is one of them.
